Doctor Who: Cold Earth

aka: my heart, it is broken

Let's get it out of the way: RORYYYYYYYYY. I know some people don't care for him, some people think he's just a boring tagalong, some people dislike him/Amy, but I ADORE him - he is a nurse, he read up in case the Doctor came back, he loves Amy so much, he's so pleased to see them together on the hill, he is normal and wants normal but does so well with adventure, he is the best of humanity, y'all - and just RORY. Death AND being sucked into the crack? NOT COOL. He HAS to come back, right? Right?  I hearted all over Karen's acting there at the end - the wild sadness, the desire to go back and get him and then...blank, and then all happy and carefree and RORY PLEASE COME BACK.  Amy is not right without you! GAAAH when she was waving to herself! She thought she saw someone else! AMYYYY. RORYYYY. I AM CRYING AGAIN AND IT'S NOT OKAY.

The ring the ring the ring!  It'll help Amy remember, right? Right?

Okay, let's talk humanity.  Major love for Nasreen, who is brilliant, and for Tony, who I think is ultimately the best of humanity - he is hurt, angry, scared, but he has courage, and he forgives, and then he accepts and appreciates the homo reptilia....I love him  Tony/Nasreen as companions, please!  Christmas Special = Doctor goes to chill in the future with Tony and Nasreen while Amy and Rory are on their honeymoon, yes/yes?

ELLIOTT. Way too adorable. I love him. He will remember! He will pass it along!  He is fantastic!  Also, love for Mo.

Ambrose. Hm. Let's not even talk about how there seemed to be a bit of a message there about how motherly love/protectiveness yields the not-the-best of humanity, because I doubt that's what they were going for.  It was a workable reasoning, and it moved the plot along.  Instead, let's talk about how it scares me how much I feel like Ambrose would be representative of the majority of humanity.  I so wish I could agree with the Doctor that most of humanity is all sparkly and good - and there IS a lot of good in humanity, really, there is - but I feel like Ambrose's reaction would be, if not necessarily the majority, definitely the strongest, most prominent sort of reaction, and that makes me sad. AND THEN SHE HAD TO GO AND TRY TO BLOW UP THE OXYGEN BUBBLES. Gah.

Love Malachai. I didn't care for the overt military-is-bad and science-is-good message there with the Silurians, but I LOVED Malachai (I also sort of loved Restak, in the moment when she entered and said 'my sister!' and her crying! gaaah), because he was awesome and curious and peaceful and he likes kids! And also he was all alone :(  Loved Eldain, too, and I liked him as the narrator, and for something that is fiction I am super hoping that in a thousand years the Silurians hop on up to earth and we all live in harmony.

I don't even want to think about the TARDIS getting sucked into the crack.  Cannot handle.  Have headache.  Need to go stop crying.  Rewatching probably isn't helping.

Also, just, in the midst of all this - Matt Smith, I adore you.  His delivery, the Doctor's glee in all this...LOVE.
