I don't even know where to begin.  Had a totally epic camping trip/weekend, but I'm way too lazy to really describe it, so I'll just bullet point things.

+ war wounds: many horrid bug bites, which make me immensely grateful for bite medication; scratches all up my legs from tramping through actual wilderness (up and down a small mountainy valley over rocks and through swaths of nothing but prickly branches, wooo) because we got lost trying to find the site; a particularly large stab wound to my thigh from a mean branch, which had me wiping blood on leaves all Bella Swan style, argh, but which then closed up quite quickly; random bruises from turning my ankles as I walked (for someone who loves the outdoors and hiking and sports and all that, I am really shockingly clumsy) and falling on rocks; and the single worst sunburn I have ever had, which has turned my entire face to literally the same shade as the tomato sitting in my kitchen.

+good things: I no longer look like a wannabe vampire, which is really good.  I'm naturally fairly pale, I guess, but I've always had a year-round tan and this last school year of no sun turned me a horrid shade of pale that just really didn't look healthy at all; I slept a LOT, which always feels nice; our trip playlist was epic, ranging from the Filipino hip-hop/rap to the UK Top 40 to Portuguese smooth jazz;  I'm almost done with Salt: A World History; I ate lots of really good campfire food; I swam across a snowmelt-fed lake (overall on this trip, I got more exercise than I did all last quarter of school, so that was really good); and I got to canoe!

+cool stuff: saw Venus! and Saturn! and the Milky Way!  the stars were so clear and beautiful and it put me so in mind, obviously, of Dr Who, which just made me even more happy; and I caught a little frog!  he was all brown and black and tiny and really soft and so adorable, and I named him Froggy (after the children's books, of course) and then let him go because he seemed so scared and I would have felt bad walking him off from his hopping path and then putting him down just anywhere to find his confused way back.

Even more important to talk about than camping is TOY STORY 3. Oh man.  That movie was the most perfect and beautiful and heartbreaking and glorious thing I've seen in a long time.  Again, bullet points, because I'm not nearly coherent about it.

+MR POTATO HEAD ON A FLATBREAD, OMG.  I almost died trying to hold my laughter back at that point. It was SO perfect.  Mr. Potato Head is God?  I don't even know, but Cas was in that movie, officially, right there, and I loved it.

+Barbie.  And Ken, but mostly Barbie.  I was telling my brother how I want to take him to see it on Monday, and he was saying he's really looking forward to it except for 'that stupid Kent doll thing' (yes, he said Kent. *facepalm*) - BUT HE'LL SEE.  I really liked how they used Ken, and how Barbie had a brain, and how they gave her that line about consent of the governed.  It was admittedly kind of cheesy and over exaggerated, but I still loved it.

+ Army men.  I named them Brad, Nate, and Ray, and I love them so so very much for all that they are such a tiny part of it.

+Woody/Buzz bromance marches on, omg.

+ BO PEEP. They lost her, guys!  Woody lost his girlfriend of forever and a day, and he still kept going on, kept trying to boost the others' hope, and his own hope.  I don't really like Woody all that much, but right there, I loved him.

+SPANISH BUZZ.  Could not have been more perfect.  And I really love Buzz/Jessie.

+The Claw!!!  So did not see that coming, though I was wondering where the little alien trio had gotten off to, and that was so perfect and so fabulous.

+When the scary clown face turned into a smile, I melted with love.

+Who else thinks that grown-up CGed Andy is sort of beautiful?

+I adored little Bonnie - this movie is so so so good at not just giving life to the toys it portrays but at giving the peripheral humans such amazing depth and characterization and spirit, and that little girl was amazing.  I couldn't stop crying when Andy went over to give her the toys and started playing with her.  I was...sad because it was ending, and it was like, tears a year late for me going off to college and leaving childhood behind, and then I was just so sublimely happy with the whole movie, and I dunno.  I cried a LOT, and in the most perfect way possible, and I cannot wait to see this movie again.

Finally, some gender fail ranting.  The subject is soccer.  Where are the women, y'all?  My family went to the SJ Earthquakes game tonight, and as much as I adore the Quakes, I can't help but always remember back when we also had the Cyber Rays (lol, Silicon Valley), our women's pro team, and the team folded I guess because the women's league folded because apparently there wasn't enough fan support.  But when the Quakes left us to go to Houston the fan support base got a new Earthquakes team! So what's up with that?   And tonight they brought out the US under 20 (men's) national team to cheer for them all.  WHAT ABOUT THE WOMEN?  I know a few girls who are in training camps for the U20 women's national team - why do we hear nothing about them?  And then of course, it's the World Cup, so I have to also talk about women's football on a global level - aka its utter lack of existence.  I guess I don't really know about other countries, but in the US, the only time I ever hear about women's soccer is during the Olympics. And that is not cool.  We have a good women's team!  Other countries have good women footballers! SO WHY DON'T WE HAVE A WOMEN'S WORLD CUP?

this is why I like the LJ-default layouts: yes they are boring, but at least they only fail when lj itself does.

welcome back, by the way! *passes you the hydrocortizone for bites*

Thank you! And yeah, I'm surfing the default layouts now. I can do simple and boring if it means no layout-fail.
