(no subject)

I don't know why this one is hitting so much harder than all the other recent horrific natural disasters, but I feel sick over Japan.  Maybe it's because I can't shake the feeling that some legitimately destructive ripple *will* hit home. I don't know.  But just yesterday I was chatting with friends about how all I want to do next week is drive down to Santa Cruz and enjoy the beach...and now the Santa Cruz harbor is destroyed, and that's nothing compared to the devastation and death and loss in Japan, and nothing compared to the extent it's hit, say, Hawaii, and nothing compared to New Zealand or Indonesia or the Queensland floods, but...it just hit hard.

I need to calm down.  I'm fine, my family is fine, my friends are fine.  I need to just think about what little I can do to help those who aren't fine right now, and stop worrying needlessly.

But it sucks.
