Copperbadge does a great job of answering it: http://copperbadge.livejournal.com/3013354.html#cutid1
I'm a wee bit hesitant about starting with it- mostly because it's foreign territory, and because LJ has a goat named Frank, and I don't think DW does. What do you think?
It's basically the same as LJ - uses most of the same coding, has basically the same features. As far as I can tell, the bit difference, the reason why people love DW so much more, is about the management. I don't really know much about it at all - I only got the DW because so many people are switching over, so I figured I'd follow the pack.
Hm. So then to mirror posts on LJ, you make a post on DW and work some easy-peesy magic and it shows up just the same over here? And that's it? ...I might be interested in this if it's that simple...
Yeah, it's really easy. When you set up a DW account, part of it is noting whether you want to automatically cross-post or not, and then if you choose that, every time you post on DW, it'll automatically post it over here as well. Doesn't work vice-versa though, just so you know.
And if you want one, just send me a private (direct) message on Twitter or something, and I'll send the code to you there.
I've seen several comments about some sort of semi-mass exodus, but haven't really thought that much about it. Meto, is getting a Dreamwidth account something you'd recommend? (God, I sound like some sort of- of- of lawyer, or something. I need sleep.)
Lol. Let's see, I'm really not the person to ask about this - I only got the Dreamwidth because people on my f-list were, and I'm a pathological follower in some aspects of life. :D It was basically just - it looks fairly likely that sometime in the near-ish future a good deal of the people I follow on LJ will be primarily/only posting on Dreamwidth, so when I had the chance I grabbed on of the startup codes (because no way was I going to pay to start one). So from that angle I suppose I would recommend it - it's not difficult to cross-post from DW to LJ, and then the only weird thing is getting comments on both accounts, but thus far it seems to me that the mass of people are still commenting/interacting over here, so I dunno. I'm more than a bit confused about the whole thing, seeing as I never personally had any issues with LJ, but DW seems just as good and I'm inclined to believe the people who have been saying they've had trouble with LJ, so I grabbed one.
That was very long-winded and probably not helpful, but the crux of it is - I have these seven codes, so if you want one I'm more than happy to give it to you, and then you can hoard it or use it as you like!
I think that issues with LJ all go back to the great slash/account purging from a few years ago. Dreamwidth is getting praise for its welcome statement, which pretty much sings about the beauty of acceptance, etc. Which fangirls interpret as Come! Post your M-rated RPF slashfic here! So naturally, it has become a very big deal.
