So, my test-post over on LJ seemed to NOT cross-post over here, so now I need to check to see if this one will indeed cross-post over there. Le sigh.

Awesome prompt. Awesome. Yeah, I saw Bedlams post about LJ too. A number of people we follow cross post over there. I did create a open ID but the whole format thing looked a little intimidating. I'm just being a baby. I'm old! I don't change!!

I tried to create an open id a while ago and just couldn't, for some reason, which was weird, and also frustrating. So I was all for making an actual account.

Hi! You don't know me, but I found the post before this one on a blogs search for 'dreamwidth' and thought I should comment; I hope this is okay. (I'm not DW staff or anything; I just like seeing posts about Dreamwidth!)

Firstly, as you've noticed, crossposting only works one-way - that is, you set up where you'd like to crosspost *to* in Dreamwidth, and then when you post at Dreamwidth your post is crossposted to LJ, etc. Unfortunately there's no easy way to do it the other way, so it'll probably always be one-way. Sorry about that!

Secondly, what problems did you have with OpenID? The reason I ask is that if there's a problem with the process, or it's not easy to do, we'd love to fix that. How did you go about doing it?

Hi! No problem at all, don't worry about it.

With OpenID, I don't think it was any sort of problem with the process or the site - I don't remember exactly what was going wrong, but it was something to do with me trying to use my .livejournal id to make an open id as it looked like I was supposed to, but it wouldn't work. I'm pretty sure it has more to do with my computer incompetency than with Dreamwidth!

*nods* But the thing is, if you have problems, chances are good you're not the only one and others also have the same problem.

For the record, the way it's *supposed* to work is one of two ways:

1. Go to http://www.dreamwidth.org/openid/ , and in the URL box, enter "metonomia.livejournal.com", then click Login.
2. On a post where you can comment, click to do so. A page will come up that will ask how you want to do it - anonymous, OpenID, or Dreamwidth account. (If you don't get that, you're probably already logged in; in that case you can click on "More Options" to get to this page.) Click on "OpenID", then enter "metonomia.livejournal.com". Then enter the comment you want as normal and post it.

In both cases, you'll be taken back to LiveJournal to confirm that you're okay with it. You can either click "Yes; just this time" or "Yes; always" depending on if you want it confirmed each time. After that, you'll be logged in as OpenID or have had the comment posted, depending on what you did :D

That's how it should work, anyway. Do you remember anything about why it didn't work for you?

I honestly don't remember why it didn't work for me. That all makes sense up there and looks quite simple to do - it was probably just me being impatient or messing something up.

Also, Aravis. This is totally true. Maybe I'll just have to use all three of them for this. *ponders*

As for DW, yeah, I got it b/c everyone else was, just so I have it. I did NOT want to pay, so I just waited until someone posted that they had a startup code free, and then used that. If I get codes sometime (I don't know how you do, I think maybe they randomly give them to you to hand out?) then I will give one to you.
