ANNA. omg. I'm just going to copy/paste some of my Skyped reactions to LaRM during the Anna arc, because I cannot speak coherently about it, and I I want these thoughts/reactions saved somewhere.  There are ideas in here I'll be needing to come back to.

       because the angel's there [I meant demon. typing skills deteriorate in direct proportion to fannish freakout]

LaRM: you know, it's strange how Dean had sort-of chemistry with Katie Cassidy's Ruby but not with Genevieve Cortese.
Me: HEHEHE who's this demon? he's fabulous! [post-show revision: Alistair is only awesome in that he is HORRIBLY CREEPY]

LaRM: I think it may be because Jared Padalecki MARRIED Genevieve. [watching this show with LaRM is the BESTEST. She knows all sorts of fannish things that add to my glee]

       WAIT I REALLY LOVE THAT SAM MARRIED RUBY [I really do. That is amazing, and awesome, and such a fairytale sort of thing.]

LaRM: Genevieve's Ruby, henceforth Brunette Ruby, also uses more cheesy colloquialisms than Blonde Ruby. they're so weirdly different.

[and then we devolve into commentary on the Ruby/Sam sexytimes, which is basically me being unable to type and quoting Sam and then talking about how I want more shirtless Sam. ahem]

LaRM: Cas' total ownage of Sam is so enjoyable to watch. I need a .gif of that moment.

       Also, did you notice that when Sam says 'Castiel' the 'tiel' gets sort of lost so it sounds like just 'Cas'?

LaRM: and anyway, we are all aboard the complex Dean/Anna/Castiel ship.
Me: well, yes
LaRM: because there is sooo something there. Castiel wants to want her.
Me: obviously Anna and Castiel have a history
       something like...she rebelled and got her feelings and had feelings for him...and yes that's exactly it, he wants to want her...OMG
       i want the AU in which he rebels with her
       for her
       trusting her that the emotions will be worth it
LaRM: I always got the sense they had an unequal relationship. She's more experienced and his superior, she wants and desires and imagines what he cannot yet, and then she leaves him behind. He misses her but can't understand why.
           Anna is a bridge.
Me: A BRIDGE OVER THE TROUBLED WATERS OF EMOTION AND DOUBT [Yes, I started singing the song in my head. don't judge me]
LaRM: Castiel can't want/sympathize humanity, but he can want/sympathize with Anna. Sort of.



And then I was also skyping with Betsy at this point, and LOOK WHAT SHE SHOWED ME


SO ADORABLE.  (also she found a flying Tennant tacklehug .gif, but that doesn't quite relate to my explosions of SPN glee)

I JUST FINISHED ON THE HEAD OF A PIN OMG.

The hand! Anna, and then Cas, and don't pull away Cas! But I'm glad he did - it shows emotion! He's uncomfortable around her for any number of reasons - she represents that sticky history that we know so little about but in which we can be certain that they were very close in some manner, and she represents all his nascent doubts and fears and I think also hopes. Because I think seeing Dean (and Dean interacting with Sam, and even things like Dean's anger over Pamela's death) and seeing Anna, and seeing Uriel go all badass-evil-bamf killing his own kin, Cas is starting to hope that maybe these humans really do have something to offer, hoping that these stirrings he's feeling are NOT wholly sinful disobedience, not a disobedience against the love of his Father but a disobedience against the unrighteous stain among his own compatriots. Because we KNOW Dean is a righteous man, now, it's certain, so surely it cannot be bad for Cas to learn from Dean, and one of the huge things he's seen from Dean thus far is Dean/Anna...clearly, the lesson to be learned is that Anna is totally awesome and lovable.

And that's not even to get into OMG ANNA'S FAITH. Because even though she rebelled and went human and is still on the heavenly hit-list, she actually has a purer and more wonderful faith than Uriel or even Castiel. She KNOWS that God their father cannot possibly want all this killing, and so even though she rebelled I think it was actually more against the angels' prejudices against God's second set of children rather than against God.

Anna is a weird card. She's like a combination of both Susanish and Lucyish virtues. God I love her character.

omg that episode is one of the best of S4. That and 4x18 and 4x22 and 'Sex and Violence' and 4x10 are my favorite S4.

What strikes me most about that scene is WHEN Cas finally decides to tell her to go away. He was definitely considering it, but then when Anna said something like "together we can do this", that's when Cas freaked out. His retort was "no, I am nothing like you, you fell". So that seems to be Cas's biggest fear at this point in time, is falling. Even demoted, Cas is a steadfast soldier and loyal to heaven, and he equates falling with betrayal no matter how much he secretly agrees with Anna, no matter how much he loooooves her. And betrayal is kinda the complete opposite of what Cas aims to be, so.

But then IDKhisBFFUriel turns out to be the betrayer! A bunch of angels turn out to be the betrayer! Cas's world is shaken! So then he calls Anna, whom he dismissed in fear and judgment earlier, because in all this madness, she was the one who actually said something that made sense to Cas. So he's like, "Tell me what to do." And of course she says no.

GAH, I love them.
