metonomia: (PC Susan)
I missed yesterday (well, I could have done it, but I was tired.) so I'll be doing two days today! It works out pretty easily, actually, because Susan.2 and Susan.3 are HHB and PC, both of which have dramatically less Pevensies than LWW.

HHB: look, I just love Susan no matter what Lewis tries to say )

Day 1!  I will be spamming you all with Narnia ladies alllllll week :D  I've claimed Susan Pevensie, and today is all her, but my plan is to do something with another lady from Narnia each day along with the daily SUSAAAAN.

For today through Sunday, I'm going to look at each of the three books Susan physically appears in, and then on Monday I'll discuss my feelings about her lack of appearance in LB.  After that, who knows! I might share the Susan happy-sad playlist I've been listening to lately.  There might even be fic (don't hold your breath).

LWW: long rambly meta is long and rambly and capslocky )

I....okay, actually, I don't really love the title of it. I think that, especially considering how it's been opened to any woman character, it's almost limiting to say 'that fandom hates.'  This is also me preferring the happy road.  Basically, it's a week-long glorious homage to a female character you choose, and I sort of wish it would just be called something more like 'We Love The Women of Fandom," but no matter, no matter, I'm super glad it's happening!

I considered branching out into Game of Thrones or picking an SPN lady, but in the end I just went tried-and-true and signed up for Susan Pevensie.  I haven't Susaned in a while and with the awesome NFE fics I've been feeling a re-surge of Narnia love, so it should be very very fun to post seven days of Susan.

memery!

Take any one of the fandoms you know I write/rec/read AND give me a type of AU (space opera AU, pirate AU, superhero AU, etc) OR another time period (Ancient Rome, Regency England, etc). I will then explain the gist of the story I would write for that AU.

Previously on "Hivemind-But-It's-All-Rth's-Fault", we have Peter and the Camel, Peter and the Everglades, and Ed'n'Su and the Russians.

My brain, of course, asks, "Where's Lucy?" So, meanwhile in England... )

Today the Narnia Fic Exchange story written for me was posted, and y'all, it is so perfect that I cannot stand it.

LADIES, and air-balloons, and a camel, and the most perfect and perfectly written adventure ever.

The one who seduced you, screwed you over, broke your heart in a million pieces, and laughed about it.

SUPERNATURAL

The old flame you don't see very often any more but whom you still really enjoy getting together with for a few drinks and maybe a pleasant nostalgic romp:

SUPERNATURAL S1-4

The mysterious dark one whom you used to sit up with talking until 3 AM at weird coffee houses and with whom you were quite smitten until you realized s/he really was fucking crazy:

SUPERNATURAL

The one you spent a whole weekend in bed with and who drank up all your liquor and whom you'd still really like to get with again, although you're relieved s/he doesn't actually live in town:

SUPERNATURAL

The steady:

SUPERNATURAL

The alluring stranger whom you've flirted with at parties but have never gotten really serious with:

SUPERNATURAL (if by not serious you mean TOTALLY SERIOUS)

The one you hang out with and have vague fantasies about maybe having a thing with, but ultimately you're just good buddies:

SUPERNATURAL S1

The one your friends keep introducing you to and who seems like a hell of a cool person except it's never really gone anywhere:

SUPERNATURAL (BUT IT WENT ALL THE PLACES)

The one who's slept with all your friends, and you keep looking at them and thinking, "How the hell did they land all these cool people?"

SUPERNATURAL

The one who gave you the best damned summer of your life and against whom you measure all other potential partners:

SUPERNATURAL (it was a spring, not a summer, but same idea)

The one you recently met at a party and would like to get to know better:

SUPERNATURAL (S7)

The old flame that you wouldn't totally object to hooking up with again for a one night romp if only they'd clean up a bit:

SUPERNATURAL (S1-2)

Your hot new flame:

SUPERNATURAL (S7)

The one who stole your significant other:

Last night I watched, no lie, the BEST Nat Geo documentary that has ever been made.  Lass was online luckily and let me capslock at her, and from it emerged the most beautiful thoughts ever.

It is called ETERNAL ENEMIES: LIONS AND HYENAS, and it's alternate title is PRINCESS HYENASTIEL AND THE CELESTIAL WARS, and everyone needs to watch it. )

:DDD

Blame [livejournal.com profile] twoskeletons and [personal profile] callowyn , and blame Google+ which lets me get on Gchat free and clear. [PS I sometimes have the ability to invite people, so if you want in, lemme know! It's fun so far] It's been really exciting! I have witnessed/partaken in live novakcesting, and I have been fangirling pretty hard.

So have some Softer Novaks, in a variety of ways.

Thanks to the ever awesome [personal profile] zempasuchil , I am on Google Plus now!  I'm using my gmail account, obviously, which some people here have and some people don't, as I have wavered erratically over time on giving fandom people my RL email vs using a fandom-only one.  Anyway, the point is, if you wanna hang on G+ conmigo, drop a line and I will give you that email.

Also if you want an invite, I want to give it to you.  If I can. I'm assuming I can.

So. I'm reading The Curse of Chalion, and I think Lois McMaster Bujold has shamelessly cribbed from Spanish - or, Castilian - history.

Iselle, the royesse - Isabel of Castile.
Betriz, her lady - the Infanta Beatriz of Portugal, the above's aunt and friend.

Anyway, the relationship of the people and how they connect to the following story isn't a complete parallel, but still, there are so many similarities.

So, once upon a time, Isabel of Castile y Leon was promised by her brother Henry to marry this total douche Pedro Giron, mainly because Pedro's brother Juan Pacheco was Henry's favorite and also because Pedro was super rich and promised Henry a ton of money in return for Isabel.

Well, Isabel was not too happy about this, because PG was old and gross.  So she prayed constantly for a way out of the marriage. She didn't eat.  She promise to crawl on her knees to Zaragoza if only God would let her not marry him.  She was on the way to meet him for the wedding when news came that he'd fallen ill and died.

Idk how historically accurate this next bit is, but in the Royal Diaries story for Isabel, her friend Beatriz conceals a knife and offers to stab Giron before the wedding.  Probably this didn't actually happen, but just keep that in mind.

Compare:

Iselle is promised by her brother to his favorite courtier's brother Dondo dy Jironal, a total douche. She fasts and prays incessantly for a way out of it.  Betriz offers to cut his head off.  Cazaril does death magic and Dondo falls ill and dies literally the night before the wedding.

COINCIDENCE? I THINK NOT. ALSO I REALLY APPROVE. BUJOLD, I LOVE YOU. PLEASE KEEP SNEAKING KICKASS SPANISH QUEENS INTO THIS STORY.

ETA: *hands* And now she is arranging her marriage in secret, behind her brother's back, to the heir of another country. ISABEL OF CASTILE, I AM TELLING YOU.

Title: Just Fine
Cast: Gugu Mbatha-raw, Anna Popplewell, James McAvoy, Laila Rouass
Song: U2 - Numb
Lie, die, serve
Don't theorize, realise, polarise
(I feel numb)
Chance, dance, dismiss, apologise

Summary: Dana (Mbatha-raw) has played in halls of power for years, brushing elbows with presidents and executives, paying off a family debt by advising and protecting a corrupt oil mogul.  But it is not the great people she remembers, not the ambassadors she's bribed or the hitmen she's killed. Dana's memory surrounds her experiences with three ordinary people - Katie (Popplewell), a childhood friend; Andrew (McAvoy), the coffee intern; and Sophia (Rouass), the roommate who knows nothing of Dana's job.  When everything goes wrong and Dana becomes the mark, it is in these three she finds unexpected help, and these three she must now protect.

Let's talk about this show, flist.  I watched seasons 1-4, missed S5 at school, saw S6 last summer, missed S7 at school, and have now picked up S8 at the start of the Top 20.

I love it so freaking much.

I've never been a dancer and never will be, but like playing the piano, it's one of those things I wish I'd at least dabbled in as a child instead of pushing everything aside in favor of sports, those things that make so much beauty and make me feel all the feelings and I want to be able to do them myself, to express myself through them, but I can't.  So I get it vicariously through others!

AND OH MY GOD THIS SEASON.

First of all, every single person is incredibly beautiful. And talented. And charming. And silly.  And gorgeous, did I mention that? Because no matter how many times my father makes semi-snide comments about how the girls are all great dancers but gosh those dancer bodies, a little thick, huh? I want to cry, because UM NO, THEY ARE PERFECT AND GLORIOUS AND LOVELY. I love them all and I want them all to win.  I suppose this season I'm rooting for Ryan Ramirez, because she was a year behind me at my high school, and she was pretty nice.  I don't really *know* her, but one of the other dancers at the school who was actually a friend of mine knew her and liked her.  But in terms of not being tied down by tenuous high school allegiances, I think my favorites so far are Wadi, Sasha, and Clarice, though honestly, I like all of them thus far.

AND GOOD GOD THE CHOREOGRAPHY. LET'S TALK ABOUT HOW I WORSHIP AT THE FEET OF NAPOLEON AND TABITHA D'UMO, OKAY. TONIGHT THEY HAD A ROUTINE IN WHICH THE DANCERS WERE WOODPECKERS. YES. THAT IS CORRECT.

Rereading A Game of Thrones so that I can move on in the book series, so I can watch more of the HBO show, and I just have to stop and say that George RR Martin just bought my soul for all eternity.  It doesn't matter what happens later.  It doesn't matter if my professor says he breaks the contract between fantasy writers and readers (I suspect I shan't care about that anyway).

LYSA IS PENELOPE AND GRRM HAS READ HIS ODYSSEY AND READ IT RIGHT.  [personal profile] animus_wyrmis , I think you will rather like this, seeing as you are the one who clarified it for me in the first place - Lysa as Penelope is not waiting for Jon Arryn to return (which, duh, he couldn't but still bear with me), but is protecting her son's interests, by holding off suitors. FUCK YES, WOMEN WHO RULE.

Okay, I'm done making very minor moments into my favorite things ever :D Back to your regularly scheduled programming.

metonomia: (a great big world)
I really want to read some of Camus' literature this summer.  The Myth of Sisyphus was already gorgeous enough, and that was you know, philosophy, which I tend to have trouble understanding/being interested in reading unless it's pretty like Kierkegaard or Camus.

Anyway.  I'm trying to write a paper about the question of philosophical suicide, which sucks, because the topic is interesting but if I'd chosen the Invisible Man prompt I could be done already, but whatever.

Anyway. Camus is pretty cool.  This dude Gilbert Hardy says "Asked about his favorite words, Camus gave once the following list: world, pain, earth, mother, people, desert, honor, misery, summer, and sea."

And I really like that, the fact that he could give such a list.  The ensuing examination of what it all meaaaaaans is a little loltastic and foreshadows Hardy's ultimate argument that Jesus is laughing at Camus because it's Camus' atheism which doesn't allow him to really find a solution to the absurd, but the list itself is supes cool.

So I think it's meme-time! List your ten favorite words (or just ten of your favorite words), whether they're favorites because of meaning, sound, fanciness, memory, or no reason at all.
1. giggle
2. ephemeral
3. silence
4. landscape
5. cosmos
6. anathema
7. origin
8. book
9. naufragio ('shipwreck' in Spanish...but not 'shipwreck.' It's not the same)
10. alas

metonomia: (so many regrettable things)
Guys, idek.  I just have all these feelings and I can't talk about them in relation to myself very well yet, so I'm doing it through Jimmy's mangled soul.
